The Writing's On The Wall

I have no internet (as of yet) at my new place, so I write this brief update before heading out after my first day of work. Interesting observations of the German workplace abound, but my favorite of the day was noticing how Germans mirror the stupifying American practice of trying to turn on an LCD projecter by pointing the remote at the screen--which is, simply put, to treat a remote control not as something which signals a machine to perfom a certain function, but rather as a sort of magic wand that can cause otherwise normal materials (like a projection screen) to glow with wondrous configurations of light and color that correspond to a computer display.

Oh world--sometimes you make me so weary.
